Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School

Archbishop Jordan Ukrainian Language Arts

Archbishop Jordan offers students who have been enrolled in the Ukrainian Bilingual Program the opportunity to continue their studies of the Ukrainian language as well as Ukrainian cultural elements in our Ukrainian Language Arts 10 and 20 classes.

Post secondary institutions in Alberta accept a passing grade in Ukrainian Language Arts 20 as a second language requirement.

Students in the program share their culture with our school community through such activities as Easter egg (pysanka) writing
(
we‘ve even taught our Japanese exchange students this unique art form); a Ukrainian collection of books, encyclopedia and art in the library; the preparation of Christmas shoeboxes for orphans in Ukraine involving various classes ; the presence of Byzantine rite icons in our chapel as well as the attendance of our Ukrainian rite clergy at religious services; Ukrainian artwork in our common area and Ukrainian door signs for the cafeteria, gym, library and chapel.

Students successfully completing the courses are well-prepared to use their language skills in social or business encounters with Ukrainians in Canada and abroad. They are eager to preserve their heritage and culture through the use of the language and the celebration of the many traditions they have experienced.
